Researchers have conducted ample studies on the benefits of diversity on college campuses and in the workplace, but little diversity research specifically addresses career centers. In his article, Ms. Saenz recommends mapping out career center diversity measures in the core areas of resources, staff training, programming, and employer recruitment. She goes on to offer specific suggestions, such as ensuring that presentation spaces are accessible to people of all physical types and using both inclusive language and ethnic examples in career center literature and programming materials.

The director of career development for the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Shelagh Saenz has shared her industry expertise through a number of publications and presentations. One of Shelagh Saenz’s published articles is “Diversity, Inclusion and Career Services.”
Appearing in the NACE (National Association of Colleges and Employers) Journal in August of 2017, “Diversity, Inclusion and Career Services” examined a range of ways to promote diversity, inclusion, and equity in higher education. The article took a specific look at actions that career centers can take to further these ends.
